Return to Water in Africa

This cutaway viwe compares a traditional well with a well that has been repaired with bricks, concrete, and a door. Traditional wells are basically open pits. These wells are not only dangerous, but do not provide clean water. Dirt, animals, and people can fall in. A repaired well provides a cover that prevents things from falling in, a door to further protect the water, and a concrete brick wall that prevents erosion.
