There are clear contrasts between the northern and southern regions of Ghana. The north is dry for eight months out of the year, while many areas in the south are tropical, and water is more plentiful. Crops also differ dramatically. Farmers in the north make the most out of the brief rainy season by raising crops that grow quickly, such as millet and rice. Southern farmers have the luxury of growing crops that need more water, like pineapple and banana.
