Return to Water in Africa

The Republic of Cape Verde, which consists of 10 islands and 5 islets, is located 460 kilometers off the coast of West Africa in the Sahel Belt. Its history has been shaped by a scarcity of natural resources, especially water. Cape Verde has the coolest temperatures of any country in West Africa.
